JOB OPPORTUNITY: Apprentice Grounds Maintenance Assistant

APPRENTICESHIP (Open to those aged 16 and over)

We are recruiting a Two-Year Apprenticeship specialising in Grounds Maintenance

Skegness Town Council is offering an Intermediate or Advanced Apprenticeship in Horticulture working within our Grounds Maintenance and Cemetery Team.

The Course – day release at Riseholme College (Lincoln)

As an apprentice you will have a job and earn a wage whilst building up knowledge and skills within the horticulture industry. These apprenticeships are a framework of qualifications made up of a Diploma in Work-Based Horticulture, Functional Skills (English and Maths), Employer Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS).

Course Entry Requirements

For the Intermediate Apprenticeship, you must have GCSE English and Maths at grade E or 3 or equivalent. For the Advanced Apprenticeship, you must have achieved a Level 2 qualification in Horticulture and have GCSE English and Maths at grade C or 4 or equivalent. For both levels, you must also pass an initial assessment and have one satisfactory reference.

Salary: National Minimum Wage for Apprentices will apply, according to age.

Public Transport travel costs will be paid for travel to and from college.

Start date: April 2018.

You will be required to attend college at Riseholme College in Lincoln on one day per week (probably Wednesday), but will usually be learning on the job by assisting our team with a range of horticultural and ground maintenance duties in Skegness. The work is physically demanding and will involve working outside in all weathers.

Although the Apprenticeship is for two years, it is possible that this may lead to a permanent employment opportunity with the Council.
