The Local Government Transparency Code

The Local Government Transparency Code is issued to meet the Government’s desire to place more power into citizens’ hands to increase democratic accountability and make it easier for local people to contribute to the local decision making process and help shape public services.

The Code requires that all Principal Authorities publicise specified categories of data, and recommends the publication of additional data. For Town and Parish Councils, this is not enforceable by law for those with a budget below £6.5m, but is regarded as best practice.

Precept

Skegness Town Council receives the majority of it’s income through the precept; an annual sum of money collected with the Council Tax by East Lindsey District.

At its meeting on 10th January 2024, Skegness Town Council agreed to set a precept of £680,266 for 2024/25.
