Youth Council Meetings 2008 - 2009

BECOMING A YOUTH COUNCILLOR

Youth Councillors have a huge part to play in the future development of our town. If you feel that things are wrong, or can be done better, as a Youth Councillor you will have an opportunity to make real change in the Town. The Council hopes that Youth Councillors will bring many new and exciting ideas to the Town.

If you are co-opted as one of two co-opted members Youth Councillors you will join other Youth Councillors, who represent many youth organisations in Skegness, and have a say in many aspects of the Town Council’s business.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Although it is a little involved we have made the application process for becoming a Self-Nominated Youth Councillor as simple as possible. As far as possible it reflects the same process Town Councillors have to go through to get elected. Our application process seeks to establish (a) that you are who you say you are, (b) that you have the correct age and residency qualifications, (c) that, if you are under eighteen, you have your guardian’s permission to be involved, (d) that you have a reasonable level of support from other young people in Skegness to be a meaningful candidate and (e) how we can contact you. The form is just about getting that whole process established on two sides of paper.

THE FORM ITSELF

Guardian’s Permission - I may seem strange that we talk about giving young people more power and then insist that people under eighteen get their guardian’s permission to be involved - but that’s the law and we have to abide by it.

Supporters - We would like all your supporters to fill out their sections on the reverse page of your form by themselves. This part is to establish that candidates are circulating and talking to people about what they are doing.

Other Queries - If you have any difficulties give us a ring on 01754 76 6113 or email us on townclerk@skegness.gov.uk. Our address is at the bottom of the first page of the form.
