FOLLOWING A RESTRUCTURE OF THE COUNCIL'S COMMITTEE STRUCTURE THIS INFORMATION IS NOW OUT OF DATE.
It has however been left on this page until new information is available to indicate the total range of responsiblities and funtions the Town Council carries out. This page will be updated as soon as possible.
PLANNING COMMITTEE
This committee deals with planning applications and meets every 3 weeks to ensure that we comply with the legal guidelines for planning applications within the specified time scale. Skegness is a busy town and we process over 200 planning applications a year. Skegness Town Council is treated as a statutory consultee, and East Lindsey District Council, who makes the final decision on planning applications locally, takes the views we express into consideration.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.
The Management Committee has limited powers as its’ function is to take much of the mundane and non-contentious items from Council and has delegated authority to deal with them. These items include:
- Street naming consultations
- Non-controversial transfer of licence's
- Use of ‘Jolly Fisherman’ Logo
- Thank you letters
- Approval of Newsletter prior to publication
- Requests for Litter Bins
- Requests for Benches
- Renewal of Public Entertainment Licence's
- Street/Road closures
- Street Collections in accordance with policy
- Risk Management
- Initial consideration of Consultation Documents – recommendation to be placed before Council
Consider and recommend to Council: -
- Burial fees
- Allotment fees
- Precept.
This committee also has a number of Working Groups and are outlined below.
BEST VALUE REVIEW WORKING GROUP
This working group deals with the way the Council provides its’ services and is continually looking for ways to improve and get the best value for our money. A number of changes are likely to be happening with Skegness Town Council over the next few years and this working group is pivotal to the changes and how they will be applied. Best Value is not about doing things as cheaply as possible or saving money, it is more about good quality services provided at a price that reflects that quality. Sometimes things cost money rather than make it, and it is the quality of what is provided for the money that is spent that is the most important.
TREE MANAGEMENT + PARISH PATHS PARTNERSHIP WORKING GROUP
This working group overseas the various public rights of way in the Town, such as Vine Walk and Coronation Walk and ensures that they are kept in good condition.
The working group also deals with all matters relating to the trees in our area. We currently have one Councillors that is a warden who generally try's and keep an eye on the trees and their condition in the area. Cllr P P Kemp is the tree warden. Tree Wardens do not have to be Councillors and there is certainly a case for more Tree Wardens for a town as large as Skegness. If you have an interest in trees and would consider becoming a Tree Warden, contact the Council offices.
This working group currently meets twice a year to coincide with planting / pruning times and incorporates representatives from Lincolnshire County Council and East Lindsey District Council.
PUBLICITY WORKING GROUP
On this working group are outside representatives are also invited to take part.
This working group deals with publicity for Skegness and generally promoting Skegness as a holiday resort.
